TRACK TIMES

Issue 1, 31 Jan 2001

Welcome to the inaugural issue of Track Times! This newsletter will feature tricks and tips contributed by the TrackEngine community on how it can be used to improve your productivity.

TrackEngine allows users to monitor any website and to be automatically alerted of new content through their emails or mobile WAP devices. We have selected the following tips for this issue:

1. EZ-TRACK
2. SEARCH AND TRACK
3. FRAMED PAGES

4. OFF THE TRACK

1. EZ-TRACK

Late last year, on users' feedback, we decided to include EZ-Track, which is a convenient starting point to track the web for the following purposes:

·        EgoTrack

Wondering who is talking about you or your company in the web? Key in the name and let TrackEngine track that information for you!

Example:

1.       Enter “TrackEngine” in EgoTrack.

2.      Click “Track me!” button for AllTheWeb.com

·         NewsTrack / TechnologyTrack

Simply enter the topic of your interest, then sit back, relax and wait for your personalised news to be delivered to your mailbox!

Example:

1.       Enter “WAP” in TechnologyTrack

2.      Click “Track me!” button for Computer World

·        AuctionTrack

Craving for that new cool Sony Clie? Track the best deals available at eBay or Yahoo!

Example:

1.       Enter “Sony Clie” in AuctionTrack

2.      Click “Track me!” button for eBay

You can access EZ-Track from the user profile page after logging in or directly from here.

2. SEARCH AND TRACK

Do you know that you can track the results of any search engines? Perform the search once, track it and the moment the search engine picks up a new entry, you will be alerted!

For instance, say I am doing a research on Intel. I can go to http://cnnfn.multexinvestor.com to perform a search on Intel by keying the ticker symbol "INTC" to get a list of reports currently available. I can then use TrackEngine to monitor this search and subsequently whenever a new report is available, I will be alerted without having to go back to perform the same search! This is PRODUCTIVITY!

3. FRAMED PAGES

A web page which uses frames is actually composed of multiple web pages, each forming a section of the overall page. Often, you can tell if a web page contains frames if you see a scroll bar controlling only a section of the page instead of the entire page. To track a framed page, you need to identify the particular section or frame that you want to track, and load it into your browser by itself.

4. OFF THE TRACK

TrackEngine was exhibited at Comdex Fall 2000 at Las Vegas. Besides receiving rave reviews from CNET for being a "Secret Weapon for your Business", our TrackEngine mascot also received a lot of attention! For those who missed the event, you can still catch our mascot here.

TrackEngine is a productivity tool that can be used in many applications and is limited only by your imagination. We look forward to your comments on how we can harness this tool to further manage the vast Internet forest. Please send your suggestion to tracktimes@nexlabs.com.
