Comdex 2000

We were extremely excited when we first heard we were going to participate in Comdex 2000, under the auspice of the Singapore Pavilion. For the more technically-inclined amongst us, Comdex is often referred to as the "Mecca for geeks", although in recent years it has lost some of its lustre to bigger shows like CeBIT.

Intense preparation for Comdex began. We had to wrap up some modules so that TrackEngine can be showcased, print brochures and posters, work on a multimedia presentation for the show, sharpen our pitch to interested parties etc. And we only had six weeks to go! Time was not on our side.

Six weeks, a long tiring flight, and two days of jet lag later, we found ourselves at our booth doing the song and dance. With the neverending stream of visitors, we have little time to rest. We needed every minute to tell everybody how TrackEngine can make them more productive.

Although we have prepared a flashy multimedia demo complete with soundtracks, the major crowd puller was a cute little toy train that we have brought along as the TrackEngine mascot. We find many people simply stopping in their tracks and staring at the toy train, as if in a trance. For those of you who missed it, we have taken some video footages of our mascot in action! The penguin onboard the train was leeched from the PocketLinux guys. Thanks!

Five days of exhibition was a draining experience, especially to first timers like us. As the show drew to a close on 17 Nov 2000 Friday, the song and dance took its tolls on our throats, and the visits to others booths to collect freebies took its tolls on our soles! As we packed up, we were all tired but nevertheless felt a sense of accomplishment that we have finally survived Comdex!

Let us take this opportunity to acknowledge those people who visited us at our booth. Thank you for bearing with us!
